Bring your own DocuSign lets you send Digital MFN envelopes from your firm's DocuSign account instead of Ontra's. Your team can track envelopes directly in your DocuSign account and apply your firm's branding to the signing experience. Setup is a one-time process — once active, signed documents automatically flow back to Ontra.
| ℹ️ | To perform this configuration, you will need admin access to your firm’s DocuSign account. |
Configuration overview
The steps for this process are as below:
- Provide Ontra with the required DocuSign information.
- Add Ontra’s app to your DocuSign instance.
- Once provided, Ontra will finalize the configuration and confirm setup.
Provide required DocuSign information
To complete this configuration, you will need to provide the following information to the Ontra team:
- DocuSign API Account ID
- DocuSign Service User ID
- DocuSign Brand ID (optional)
DocuSign API account ID
To find your organization’s DocuSign API account ID, proceed as follows.
- Login to your organization’s DocuSign instance as an administrator.
- Navigate to the Admin tab.
- Navigate to the Apps and Keys page, found under the Integrations section header in the left-side navigation menu.
- Copy the value found under the API Account ID header.
DocuSign service user ID
| 💡 | A service user is a user account configured for the purpose of performing a specific digital task and is not meant to be tied to a specific individual person. This practice ensures uninterrupted delivery of digital services even as staff members change roles, responsibilities, or active presence at an organization. |
In this instance, the service user will be used to send digital MFN envelopes on behalf of your organization via DocuSign.
For success, the service user needs to satisfy the following properties:
1. The user needs a sending license and normal sender permissions. No admin rights are required.
2. The user should have a display name and email that you are comfortable presenting to LPs, because that is what LPs will see as the sender on MFN election form envelopes.
To find your service user’s DocuSign user account ID, proceed as follows.
- Login to your organization’s DocuSign instance as an administrator.
- Navigate to the Admin tab.
- Navigate to the Apps and Keys page, found under the Integrations section header in the left-side navigation menu.
- Find the row corresponding to your service user, then copy the value found under the User ID header.
DocuSign brand ID
| 💡 | Providing a DocuSign brand ID is optional.
If no DocuSign brand ID is provided, the Digital MFN DocuSign envelopes will be sent using your organization’s default branding.
If you wish to send Digital MFN envelopes using something different from your organizational default, you will need to provide the corresponding DocuSign brand ID. |
To find a DocuSign brand ID (if not using your organizational default branding), proceed as follows.
- Login to your organization’s DocuSign instance as an administrator.
- Navigate to the Admin tab.
- Navigate to the Brands page found under the Account heading in the left-side navigation menu.
- Select the brand you wish to use for Digital MFN envelopes and copy the Brand ID found at the bottom of the Info section.
Add Ontra app to DocuSign
Once you have provided the above information to Ontra, a member of the Ontra Customer Care team will provide you with a consent link to approve Ontra’s app in your organization’s DocuSign instance.
You will need to login as the service user and access the consent link as a one-time step to approve Ontra’s app in DocuSign that allows for information to flow between DocuSign and Ontra.
Finalize configuration
The Ontra team will finalize the configuration and reach out to you with confirmation of completion and next steps to test the connection to ensure functionality.
After configuration, all Digital MFN envelopes for your account will be sent from your DocuSign account, using the service user provided.
